Being A Mom

Being a Mother is an honor. something I cannot be foolish enough, not even for one day, to complain about or not cherish (even though I sometimes do, I need to remember to not ever). I need to appreciate that I get to stay home, that I have been blessed to have my boys and girl. That it's ok that I have trucks on my floor and sippes in my sink. I need to remember that it's ok that the laundry is done and in a pile because I got side tracked playing peekaboo while folding it. I need to thank the Lord for every moment I get to spend enjoying my kids. I need to remember to be grateful for the crayon on the wall because my kid is healthy enough to stand up by himself, I often have to remind myself that Seth being so active is a blessing, and I think back to some of the families I worked with and what they wouldn't give to have their child be able to do the Seth's does. I am grateful!!

I want to love more freely, feel deeper, and be more supportive to those around me. To hold my children closer and cherish this path I am on, and see it for the miracle it is, and not just lack of sleep, dirty diapers, spit up, and all the other changes that came with having kids. This video helps me remember the biggest blessing I have, which sometimes is easy to forget, my kids.

We've been blessed with a biological son, an adopted one and a daughter who we're not sure how long the blessing will last but we'll treasure her while she's here. Our adoption story isn't like anyone else's. We didn't wait years, we didn't have to spend thousands of dollars, but our adoption has it's own set of challenges but they don't make him any less of a blessing. Seth's pregnancy was less complicated than expected but was still a challenge in it self, but again more of a blessing than I could ever ask for. And FD came with her own set of challenges but everyday I am reminded how lucky I am to have the 3 of them.

Life is hard, some challenges are more visible than others, but we each fight our own private battles each day. I can only hope that when people see me what they see is kindness (which I know it is not always the case). Even though I often fail, this is the type of mother I want to be, and this is the type of person I want to be.

I just want to say that I believe in adoption. I believe it is God's way of balancing out so many things that seem unfair. In unmarried relationships, I believe adoption should always be a part of the decision-making conversation. For all of my friends and family who want a child and cannot have one biologically, I want this for you, and it makes me cry to think about it. That some one as wonderful as you has to wait for this amazing blessing. It makes me remember how lucky I am, and how hard I need to work to be worthy of the blessings I've been given.

I was blog hopping and found parts of this on another blog, I added some and took out parts but it so beautifully expressed what I was feeling. So know that it's not all my writing, but it is my feelings.

Garbage

Thought of the day! (not written by me)

The Law Of The Garbage Truck

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.

We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car

jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed

the other car by just inches!

The driver of the other car whipped his head around and

started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy.

And I mean he was really friendly.

So I asked,

'Why did you just do that? This guy almost

ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!'

This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call,

'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks.

They run around full of garbage,
full of frustration,
full of anger,
and full of disappointment.

As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump

it and sometimes they'll dump it on you.

Don't take it personally.

Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.

Don't take their garbage and spread it to other

people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let

garbage trucks take over their day.

Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets,

resentments, anger, and frustration;

so . . . .

Love the people who treat you right.

Ignore the ones who don't.

Life is ten percent what you make it,

and ninety percent how you take it.

Have a great, garbage-free day!

I just got this comment on this post: Thanks for posting this great story! My name is Dawn, and I work with David J. Pollay, the author of The Law of the Garbage Truck™. I just wanted to stop by and let you know that you can read the original story on David’s blog, http://davidjpollay.typepad.com/david_j_pollay/lawofthegarbagetruck.html. It would mean a lot to us if you would let people know that David is the author of The Law of the Garbage Truck.

You can also find out more information about The Law of the Garbage Truck on www.thelawofthegarbagetruck.com. Make sure to check out the video of people in New York City taking the No Garbage Trucks!™ Pledge: www.bewareofgarbagetrucks.com. It’s pretty cool.

Thanks again!

Blessings

(Let me preface this by saying I didn't take the pictures, I haven't photoshopped any of them, there are a ton more, wish we got a few better ones, but I just don't have time right now to worry about it.)
Christian's Blessing!
We blessed Christian on Saturday! It was so much fun to have many of our family and friends there to support us. We missed the ones that couldn't travel in the snow but were glad everyone is safe.
We had about 50 people come, we sang I am a Child of God, My dad gave the opening Prayer... Sam blessed Christian, (it was beautiful!)
and Sam's Dad said the closing prayer. Then it was time for lunch. Shredded pork and Beef, enchilada style chicken and the makings for Cafe rio type salads, fruit veggies and desserts!

It was an amazing day for us! Sam and I felt very loved with all the people who came or sent loving wishes. I guess not he's official, the judge says he's our and on all the records his name is now Christian Charles Baugh! I love this boy!
One more thing... (I know this post is about Christian but I have to Thank Jodi)
This is Jodi. Jodi is one of my best friends. She has saved me countless times. I miss seeing her everyday. I get in my head these ideas of how I want my function to look and work. She comes in and makes it happen. She showed up early with man power helped get tables, chairs, food and everything else ready. She's the one I call and vent to. She's the one who reminds me that it will be ok. She's the one who I talk to for adult interaction. THANK YOU JODI!

It's Final!

Our Family!
All the People who came to the courthouse to support us!
(except Alecia she was taking the picture)
Thank you Everyone!

Trying to get a good one.
The judge was running 2 hours late!

With our Lawyer Paul MacArthur

Running the hallway waiting and waiting

Hungry!

Seth decided that he needed to to sworn in too so he held up his hand and answered yes when Sam and I did. Christian jabbered and blew raspberries the whole time. The judge said he looked Happy and well fed. With our Judge. It was worth the wait because now it's offical he's ours.

Sunny Days and Snowy Days wait it was the same day!?!

This week started out with FHE and making scripture cookies

Christian in starting to appreciate real food more. (FD told me this looked like a police picture.)
Sometimes he's still not so sure though.

Seth wants to be just like Daddy

Seth and Sam worked all week in the mornings building planter boxes for our garden this year! They are wearing coats because it was still a little chilly in the mornings (They would start building at 8am)
By the afternoons though it got warmer, up to 55 degrees one day.

Then that evening it started to SNOW!!!

And kept snowing the we woke up to almost 7 inches of snow!

Seth and Daddy built a snow man, Seth named him Sam.

Trying to catch snowflakes on his tongue

Runaways and Regular Days

Last week it was my birthday. For the most part it was just like any other day. A few phone calls, an email or two, some Facebook messages. Sam had to work at the Big Business Expo all day and take a final for school in the evening. I had a big paper due, FD had a Doctor's appointment, Seth likes story time at the library, so it was just like any other day for the most part. I was really ok with that, I've never really like my birthday any way.

But Sam took Thursday off and finished his big project. Friday he was off too, he watched the boys while I got my hair cut and colored. It's short, but I like it. Then we dropped off the boys at my parents house, FD to respite and we headed up to Lava Hot Springs. There isn't a whole lot to do in Lava but relax. Our Hotel room had a HUGE tub with hot mineral water on tap, we had a pass to the hot pools, slept in, took naps, soaked and just got to be together. It was wonderful!

We drove to Idaho Falls one night and had dinner with my Aunt Annette and Uncle Steve, My cousin Angie and her BF. It was fun to see them.

I didn't take many pictures. But we did see some pretty cool things. We almost hit a cow that decided to meander across I-15. We saw 4 snow white wolves and/or really big dogs walking along the side of the freeway. (Sam saw them to so I know I'm not hallucinating).
The moon was out all day in a beautiful blue sky, the bushes along the river are starting to turn pretty colors, we saw some deer, it was just really peaceful and beautiful.
What else is going on during our Regular days:

Christian: had his 6 month checkup, he's 18 lbs 6 oz and 28 inches long. The Doctor said he is happy, healthy, strong chunk. He has 2 teeth and is cutting a 3rd and 4th. He is trying to sit up by himself. He is very stubborn and will only roll over when he wants too. We started him on "real" food, if you can call rice cereal real food. He isn't so sure about it but the more he eats the better he likes it.

His adoption will be final in a few days and we can't wait to bless him. Seth: is building up quite the vocabulary. He is talking so much. He's very independent. He wants jobs, or work like Daddy. He will carry around his tools and fix what Daddy had been working on. He will ask for jobs so he can get money for his piggy bank. He puts the soap in the dishwasher, he empties the lint trap in the dryer, he licks the spoon, he helps cook, he exercises the dogs and reports each time the poop, and he makes sure brother always has his binkie.

Seth and his animals

CHEESE!

He got into Sister's lip gloss isn't he pretty?

FD: she is doing well in school, and has been really busy with activities. I can't share a whole lot but she's doing well.

Sam: is busy. With being a superhero Dad, With school full time and work full time plus some he is really busy. He makes it home before the kids go to bed, for family home evenings on Mondays, and most Fridays (well evenings) are Daddy Days, his class that he had on Saturdays is over now so he will be home about 2 Saturdays a month so I'm excited about that. And since both boys are early birds Sam gets up and gets some time in then. He is doing great in school and has great grades, his boss called him a protege and he's working his way up and getting his name out there. In a few weeks he's in meetings at the Ivory tower with the Big wigs. Even with all that going on, I asked him what was the greatest thing he's ever done and he told me "making this family." I'm so proud of him.

Waiting for Daddy to come home
Me: I told the Dr. I didn't have time for surgery on my foot until Sam is on break from school in April and my semester will be over then too. He's put my in a new kind of brace that is helping. School is going well, I'm finding a have a little more liberal views than my classmates in my ethics class but it makes it interesting. I get the kids to appointments, activities, I'm on the hunt for a good preschool for the fall, I started my plants inside so soon they can be transplanted outside to the garden.

Our Zoo:
Lucy is soon to be turning 9 (63 in dog years) and is officially a senior citizen, but she still is the best puppy. She lets Seth chase her relentlessly and lets him try to walk her and chases the ball when he throws it.

Maggie: Is still happy, Seth gave her a hair cut. She loves to play fetch and harass Lucy. She still loves to cuddle at night though.

Nina Kitty: We had to put Nina down a few weeks ago. She was in renal failure and miserable. Sam took it pretty hard she was his kitty. Seth still will go out to where we buried her in the yard and wave good bye.

Moshoe: is still a strange cat. He is a big white fluff ball but came inside muddy the other day so Seth picked him up and put him in the shower. The cat just sat there, and let Seth wash him. He let Seth wrap him in a towel and then cuddled him.

So that's about it. Our Runaways and Regular Days.

One more thing just so I can remember. For FHE we decided to teach the kids about saving money. The kids each have a savings account and we have a few family ones that a percentage of Sam's paycheck goes into every time. But the kids don't see that. So we decided to make piggy banks for FHE so the kids could see us save and they could save too. Seth helped cut his paper and put the stickers on it. Not exactly how I imagined it but Still cute. He's proud of it so that's all that matters.
