Alexandria Avalynn Baugh Or Princess Monkey Depending on who you talk to

 Alexandria Avalynn Baugh
Born February 25th at 4:49am
6 lbs 14 oz
20 1/2 inches long

Seth says we should have named her Princess Monkey. So that's what he calls her.

Why are there no pictures of Chris with Alexandria?
He didn't want to, and I wasn't up for the fight.
Why does Seth have a bandaid on?
His Girlfriend kissed him and he had to protect the kissy mark.

What's in a Name?

So we have had a little bit of trouble deciding on Baby Girl Baugh's name. We still haven't decided but really should.

Seth's name was easy. I always wanted the name Seth. Seth is my Grandpa. He passed away of complications from diabetes. He told me that if I was lucky enough to have a kid I could name my son after him. Because with my diabetes it would be difficult. Well there was some family drama and my brother decided to name his son Seth. His son was born a few days after we found out we were pregnant. And because I have an amazing husband we were always going to have his middle name be Samuel after his Daddy. But because of the family drama we did a switch and his name became Samuel Seth... and we just call him Seth. Which works out fine.

Christian's name was easy too. Sam and I were talking before we had officially said we would adopt. We were sitting in the hot tub and started talking about names. And he came up with Heidi's middle name is Christine, and Chuck's full name is Charles so what about Christian Charles. It fit and seemed right. So that's what we named him. In the hospital they just called him Baby Flower. Heidi and Chuck wanted to name him Charles Randal Flower, the 3rd, Jr. (because Chuck's name is Charles Randal Flower Jr.) But some how the nurses never had that make it to the signs... so he stayed baby Flower. And Baby Flower was his legal name until his adoption was finalized in March, 6 months later.

So that's how the boys got their names... now we just need to come up with one for Baby girl.

Birth Story II

Christian's birth story...
We got a call in June from Heidi and Chuck. They asked us if we "wanted" their baby. Because Heidi had spent a week up here trying to take care of her sister Terra's baby (with supervision of Terra of course) and she didn't think she could do it. We prayed about it and asked them to. And how do you say no. So we agreed to adopt Christian when we was born.
We started talking with an adoption attorney. Got Heidi and Chuck some meetings with a counselor to make sure they understood what it meant for us to adopt Chris.
On a Wednesday I was playing with Seth at a park when Heidi called for her daily check in. She said she was sick and throwing up and she had a really bad head ache. I know what those are signs of. I asked her if she had seen the Dr. called her mom etc. She said her mom and sister Leah were at work, and they didn't have staff until that afternoon to take her. I was so frustrated because I was so far away and couldn't do anything about it. They got a hold of their staff and she took them to the hospital a few hours later. And Heidi's mom and sister came and Chuck's parents came.
While all this was getting figured out Sam was at work, he had started a new job 2 days before. He was supposed to start a new set of classes the next night. So he email the teacher to say he wasn't going to be able to make it. The teacher told him to not bother taking the class then. But Sam being as persuasive he is convinced her to let him come and take the class that night and then when we got back he would start going to the Thursday class. She finally agreed. So after work he drove to SLC and went to class.
I stayed home and packed our bags to head to St. George, praying the whole time we didn't miss it. Sam got home at about 10pm I had the van packed, Seth strapped in, Marie was in bed and her respite staff was here to watch her.
And we hit the road about 10:30pm. We drove straight to Hurricane. We got into Hurricane about 2am. We dropped off Seth at Mom Hall's who so graciously agreed to listen for Seth. And at about 2:45am we made it to the hospital in St. George. We talked with everyone, and tried not to fall asleep. At about 5:45 AM Heidi started to push. I was holding her right leg, Leah was holding her other leg, Alice and Chuck were up by her head. Sam was a little farther away. Heidi didn't make a sound, no yelling, no grunting nothing, she would just get a red face right before she pushed, no pain killers, no epidural, no noise, she just pushed. And Christian was born at 6:46 am, 7 lbs 13 oz. 21 inches long.
He did great. A healthy baby.  Sam helped Chuck give Chris his first bath etc.
Right after Chris was born, this will forever be one of my favorite pictures. Chuck kissed Heidi told her what a great job she did, kissed Chris and then handed him to me.

Chris instantly took to Sam. He still Loves his Daddy.

So tired but so happy and so blessed.

About 1 pm we headed back to Hurricane for a nap and to check on Seth. He got to play at Aunt Angie's while Grandma went to work, and we were at the hospital. Seth was having tons of fun. So we took a short nap and then took Seth back with us to St. George to meet Christian.

The next day, Friday, the Social worker came about 11am and Heidi and Chuck signed the adoption papers, legally making Christian ours.
They love him so much

That afternoon Heidi checked out of the hospital. Chris stayed about an hour after she did because they wanted to finish his circumcision. Then we loaded up the car and drove back to Orem. On the way home we had to stop in Beaver and get a new tire because we blew one. (I'm so glad we didn't blow it on the way down because we would have missed it.)
When we got home Marie got to meet Chris, we started to unpack and then we all went to bed.

The next morning we loaded up and drove to the other end of the state and went to Horse Days at my Brother John's arena. In 24 hours we went from St. George to Cornish (outside of Logan). Saturday afternoon we headed home and started to get back into the daily swing of things.
This is at Horse Days, He didn't come out of the sling, and because he didn't come out of the sling most people left him alone and didn't realize he was only 2 days old.

And 6 months later on March 9th, the Judge finalized Christian's adoption, and he is ours.

So that's how Christian made his way into the world.

Birth Story

So I've been thinking about birth stories because that is what is on my mind right now. And because I started this blog after Seth was born his isn't on here and neither is Christian's. So I figured I would catch up now that I have all this time on my hands and am not allowed to nest.

So here is Seth's Birth Story...
I had been on bed rest a week for pre clampsia, and low fluid. So it was the next Friday afternoon I went in for my NST and an amnio. They started to do the ultrasound to find a pocket of fluid for the amnio, but they couldn't find on big enough to draw out enough fluid to test. They asked if we had our hospital bag with us and we didn't so they told us to go home and get it have a nice dinner and then come back to be induced. So that's what we did. We went home finished packing our bag and then went to have dinner.

After dinner we drove to LDS hospital. They started the induction meds and we watched movies, played card games, talked a lot, tried to sleep. Sleep didn't go so well because they were testing my blood sugar every half hour. My Dr was on call all weekend so she came and hung out with us, some of the Labor and Delivery nurses were ones I had gotten to know during my NST's so they would come in and say Hi. Being our first time we didn't pack any of our own movies so we watched the ones the hospital had, they were pretty bad. Not bad as in evil, bad as in bad acting, bad story line etc. By Saturday morning I had progressed a little bit, but not much so they upped the meds. My actual nurse who was not very bright told the Dr she didn't think I was actually a diabetic because she hadn't needed to give me any insulin all night. My Dr laughed and said it was because I hadn't taken off my pump. I requested to not have the specific nurse again. Saturday we watched more movies, played more games, had bouncy races on the birthing balls, soaked in the jetted tub, walked, visited with the Dr and nurses more. By Saturday night I was having long contractions. Like they would last 20 mins. I would shake and they hurt. The Dr. was worried my body was giving out so she asked if I wanted an epidural that way I could be ready if they needed to C-section me in a hurry. So at about 9pm Saturday night I got an epidural. I could still move my legs and had some feeling them. At about 10pm my blood sugars started having a hard time, Seth's heart rate kept going up and then dropping. At about 11pm I started to push, the Dr told them to prep the surgical room because my body was about done. At 11:45pm she started asking if I was ready to have a C section. She gave me a few more minutes... and Seth was born at 12:36am on Sunday morning weighing 6 lbs 1 oz and 21 inches long.  The next few hours are kindof a blur, they watched his blood sugars really closely to make sure he would stabilize (because often kids of diabetic moms in the womb produce more insulin at the end of the pregnancy to help mom and so it can take them some time to adjust to making just enough for them selves). He got his first bath. First feeding etc. About 7:30am the visitors started. My parents came to visit. The Uptons came to visit. The mayor of SSL came to visit. The relief society president came to visit. We were so tired. But it was nice of every one to come.   During church hours visitors died down a little bit and we got in a small nap. We spent the next 2 days stabilizing my blood sugars and trying to get Seth to be full and over his Jaundice and more visitors. I can't find any of the actual delivery/ immediately after delivery pictures they are on my hard drive some where. One day I will located them.

This is the pic Sam took with his phone and texted out when Seth was born.

A very tired me and my little monkey

I was so swollen and puffy from retaining so much fluid. But this is our little family.

Dr Ponder and Seth

All ready to go home

We went home Tuesday afternoon. Sam had mandatory meetings for his job Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so he went back to work and I stayed home with my little monkey man and him on his Billy bed to help the jaundice and daily trips to the Pediatrician to check his jaundice and weight. He lost a pound after birth.
Lucy giving Seth back his binkie while he was on his billy bed. It drove her crazy for him to cry at first.

My little man relaxing on his billy bed.
He had to spend 5 days on the billy bed. And even after the jaundice was gone he still was never full. He refused to take a bottle, and was hungry every 2 hours because he has a super fast metabolism (which he still has) So we weren't supposed to let him cry for very long because it wasted so many calories and he would drop weight very quickly. So I had to feed him every 2 hours if not more. So I went crazy after he was born because I was so sleep deprived. So we finally after tons of visits to the lactation specialist he finally started eating and sleeping more than 2 hours at time. And 8 weeks later I went back to work. And Seth got to come with me most days thanks to an amazing "boss". (Boss is in italics because Jodi was my boss but is still one of my bestest friends).

So that's the story of how Seth came into the world.

Breakfast in Bed

Sam didn't have early high council meetings one Sunday morning so I let him sleep in. (because most days he lets me sleep in) And I knew bedrest was coming which would make Valentines day difficult. So the boys and I made him heart shaped waffles with Strawberries and whip cream, bacon and eggs. And they delivered it to him in bed. But Daddy can't eat alone so they had to climb in for their breakfast and cuddles too.
