Pictures from Primarys

With the semester finally over I have some time for a minute and I finally emptied my SD card out of my little camera.
And I found pics from when Lexi was at Primary Children's.

We kept her in her diaper and the AC on to help her fever break

This is when she was starting to feel better and could be unhooked from the IV.

Superman

It took him a little while to warm up to the idea of having his picture taken.
But I love this picture even if you can't see his face.
I love that he is snuggled into my shoulder.
I love that he's my Superman, and even Superman needs his mama sometimes.

So adorable

Jenny Ringholz who has taken our family pictures a few times partnered up with a online boutique to take pictures of kids in the boutique's clothes. You could enter your kid and see if they win, they get their picture taken in the boutique outfit and you got to keep the outfit and have your kids pictures taken.
The girl age group was to old for Lexi so I didn't enter her.
They decided to have a boys contest even though the boutique doesn't carry boys clothes. So it was basically for free pictures.
Both of my boys won.
Ok there was only a few boys entered, and out of the 5 boys who won, my two and one other boy are the only ones that showed up for the pictures. I felt bad Jenny had been sitting there all day waiting for the other people who just never showed up. But that's ok I guess because we  got extra time.
We went to Trolley Square to take the pictures because it was raining.
I took Chris first because Sam and Seth went to a birthday party back in Orem and came up after Christian's pictures.
Christian wanted to be Superman in his pictures. So I had all the stuff for him  to Clark Kent and Superman.
He didn't cooperate so I hope some of his pictures turn out.
While we were waiting for the people after us to come we were talking to Jenny and Lexi wanted to be Superman too and Jenny snapped this picture. I LOVE IT!
You can't really tell she is Clark Kent (but that wasn't the purpose of the picture) but I don't care I still think it's adorable!
The  rest aren't done yet but I can't wait until they are!

Lexi's Hospital Stay

The full story:
Lexi had been on antibiotics for 14 days. She took the last dose Wednesday afternoon. She had a sinus infection and ear infection I just couldn't get rid off.
Thursday afternoon after we came home from the zoo she got a low  grade fever, nothing major only 100.9.
She didn't feel great Friday and her fever was a little higher, 102. She didn't sleep well that night and was up every 2 hours.
Saturday her fever stayed around 102 all day Saturday, we tried cool bathes, Tylenol, Ibuprofen, sitting outside without a jacket. She was refusing to eat and drink most of the day. She didn't sleep well. She was up until after 1am then back up at 2:30am until 4am then back up 5:30am until 7:30am.
Sunday her fever rose no matter what we tried. She woke up with a dry diaper and didn't have one all day. Her fever continued to rise. I took her to instacare. The check in lady talked to the Dr to make sure she could be treated there. The Dr said yes. So we paid our copay, we sat and waited and waited. Finally the triage took us back and she talked to us for a few minutes, took her temp 103.8. Then she went to talk to the Dr. She came back and said that we had to go to the hospital.
So Lexi and I loaded back into the van and started the drive to Primary Childrens.
When I got Lexi out of her car seat she was bright red. She was breathing really shallow and almost limp.
We went into the ER. The immediately triaged her, temp 106. Heartrate 220 (normal for her age is 140). O2 level was at 79%. The nurse called Shock Protocol on the intercom and we were rushed back to a room and within minutes there were nurses, Drs, techs etc. there. Her IV was started, her blood drawn, catheter in, meds given within 10 minutes of being there. They were worried she was going into shock because of her high fever.
We had someone with us constantly for about the next hour. Her breathing got better, her heart rate was lower at 180 but still not in the normal range. She still hadn't wet a diaper but weren't as worried she was going to go back critical. We stayed in the ER for about another 5 hours. More fluid. More times taking vitals. The labs came back it wasn't a UTI, it wasn't one of the 12 most common viruses going around. The Dr. explained that it wasn't like on TV  and that they had a magic computer system to scan the sample and match it to what it was. And viruses mutate fast so it's almost impossible to rule them all out. At about 9pm the Dr came in and said they wanted to admit her. They hadn't ruled out meningitis, she still had tachycardia, and her fever had only dropped to 105.
So Sam loaded up the boys and drove up to Primarys with my blood meter and other random supplies I needed to stay the night.
About 10pm they moved us to the ERTICU or Emergency Rapid Treatment Intensive Care Unit. They explained it as a unit where it can turn critical or clear up really fast. They are hoping you don't have to be there very long and don't have to be admitted to the hospital but you need more care than the ER but they want you close to the ER incase it does turn critical and they need the equipment that is there. They showed you the nurse call button, the Critical Care button and then the Code Blue button. The room had a crib for Lexi, a bed for me and a rocking chair. The unit is pretty small there is only like 16 beds (10 rooms but 3 were double occupancy). We got our own room because we were quarantined. Everyone who came in wore masks, gloves, gowns etc. We had our own nurse, 2 techs and a pediatrician that we shared with one other room.
The nurses were really nice and brought me in a bunch of snacks because they noticed my pump and didn't want me to drop in the night.
We tried to entice Lexi to eat or drink anything. She refused a bottle, slushie, Popsicle, crackers, soda, juice, water everything we tried. She would go to sleep, or when she finally would they would have to come in to take her vitals. She wore the O2 monitor all the time, she still had her IV in, a BP cuff on her leg, but they would come in to take her temp every half hour. Finally about 4am I laid down in the bed with her and they let us sleep for an hour and a half without taking her vitals. Her fever was pretty steady at about 103 and her heart rate stayed about 160 when she was asleep.
Monday morning about 10am her fever broke finally, 100 degrees!
The labs came back that it wasn't a horribly contagious virus, so no meningitis, so we were off quarantine.
After 2 1/2 bags of fluid she had a wet diaper.
She needed to get her heart rate down under 140 and drink over an ounce of liquid in an hour for three hours to get to go home.
She finally met all those criteria about 4:30 Monday afternoon. So we headed home.
They say she win this battle but the war with the virus isn't over. But hopefully with the antibodies she built up with this attack and the meds they gave her she will get over it fast.
That night her fever started rising again. She quit drinking as much. We watched. We prayed. She got another blessing.
Monday night Sam stayed up with her because I was exhausted. He said she didn't sleep well.
Tuesday morning I seized. Sam got up and got ready for work he came in and woke me up at 7:30am. I guess I got out of bed. (I don't remember anything until about 9:45am) I came and sat on the couch. Lexi fell asleep and Sam put her in her bed. Sam left for work,  thinking I was just still really tired not realizing I was really low. Seth said I went back to bed. He came in at 9am and tried to get me up because Lexi was awake and my phone kept ringing. I was shaking so he went and got me some sugar.
I got up, got Lexi, decided I wanted boiled eggs so I boiled a lot of eggs. I ate random stuff some containing gluten. About 9:45 my memory starts to come back. I am doing dishes, Lexi is in her high chair throwing food to the dogs, Seth and Chris are eating toast and boiled eggs. I test my blood sugar 26. I drink more chocolate milk I eat another egg. I have a pounding headache. I take Lexi's temp 100. That's doable.
I rush to get stuff done. Get the boys ready for school.
Lexi takes a nap. I work on homework the semester is almost over.
About 3pm her fever is back 102 but it doesn't stay long by bedtime her temp is 98.
Wednesday morning a low grade fever again but it doesn't stay long and with meds is gone.
Thursday low grade fever, but even without meds is gone by the afternoon.
Friday no fever. 24 hours fever free!!! Maybe the war with the virus is over. They don't know what caused her to get sick. They are guessing it was a virus. They don't know why her body had such a strong reaction to what ever it was but hopefully it doesn't happen again to my sweet little girl.

Over crowded Zoo day

The boys still had a few days of spring break left after we got home from Hurricane and Hurricane had given me a break so I was actually feeling decent. So met up with some of our friends from the CP and we headed to the zoo.
Apparently everyone else had the same idea. When we got there at 10am the parking lot was already full and the line to get in was down the side walk all the way to the back of the parking lot. It was crazy!

All the kids in the group
The whole group

We went and saw all of our favorite animals.

We watched Rizzo swim for the longest time.

It was crazy. Normally the zoo only takes us 3 hours at the most. Because there were so many people there it took us 5 1/2 to get through to see everything. But that's ok I have missed these ladies to much and we all needed to be out my kids have missed it.

We rode the carousel last and then headed home.

That was our over crowded day at the zoo.

Sam on the Radio

Sam was on the radio the other day. He was on the employment show on KHQN 1480. You could listen on the radio or watch it live on the internet.
He did a really great job. He gave suggestions about how to get in the door when looking for a job and how to network to find the jobs that never get posted.
They only got  through part of what they wanted to talk about so he's going to be on again soon.
He doesn't like to brag so I will he really is good at what he does. He is training other people on the best way to help people find jobs. The program he started is taking off through the whole LDS employment system. He is having amazing results. I am very very proud of him.

Easter

After our last trip to Hurricane we came home for 5 sleeps and then headed back down for Easter.
It's a tradition.
The Halls always do a big Easter party for Mac and his siblings.
We got there about 8 o'clock Friday night. The boys immediately unpacked the tent, set it up and got ready to sleep out in the pasture. They were so excited. All the older cousins (and their Daddies) slept out. The Mom's and babies slept inside.
The next morning we got up and had a big breakfast with everyone, and then more fun ensued.
 We rode 4-wheelers.
We rode Horses.
We rode dune buggies.
We played with cousins.

The boys rode the dune buggy too but I didn't get a picture. :(

We got to play with Papa.

We got to visit with The Greats. (the Great are Great Grandma and  Grandpa Hall)

We got to decorate bird houses.

After a large dutch oven lunch we rolled Easter Eggs.
The tradition was started when Grandma Great was a little girl they would roll eggs down a hill and who ever's when farthest won.
Over the years it's evolved.
This year it turned into the Eggwood derby. Some one even brought a goose egg. That  thing was HUGE!

Grandma Great has Alzheimers so she doesn't remember why we roll eggs, or who some of us are. But she still seems to enjoy having everyone there especially when we remind her that we are all her descendants.  (ok so we are adopted and/or distantly related descendants but still) Grandpa Great told us that it makes him proud to see everyone there because he worked hard to try to make sure his kids had it better than him, they have worked hard to make sure their kids had it better than them and we are now working hard to teach our kids. According to him that's how we are going  to save the world.
They have worked hard for a long long time.
They still go out every day and take care of a herd of goats for the city.
They still go and move water for their orchards.
They still go check on the cattle.
They still garden.
Because they planned ahead, bought land and planted so many trees, cared for them, I have fruit to put up every year. Because they planned ahead bought land and invested in cattle I have beef to feed my family.
Side note: I love farm fresh beef. Store beef tastes and smells different. I grew up on farm beef. My grandparents raised cattle. It's what I'm used to and I love it and feel so blessed that my kids get to grow up on it too.
After the egg roll we went on an egg hunt.

Lexi fell asleep right before the egg hunt and I was not about to wake her up. So she got her own little hunt when she woke up.

 Cousin Whitney helped too.
After all that fun we had a couple of hours to relax and then we picked up Grandpa Baugh to take him to dinner for his Birthday.
The next day was Easter Sunday.
All three of my boys got matching bow ties.
Lexi got a new Easter Dress.

They got Easter Baskets but I didn't get pictures.
We stayed in Hurricane for 2 more days because Sam had to work training the people at the Employment center down there. So he worked in the mornings and then came home to play.
We played with cousins, jumped on the trampoline, played in the dirt pile, ran and just had a great time.

 Tuesday Afternoon we headed home.
When we got home Seth decided he wanted to ride 4 wheelers more and so did Lexi.
Seth thought it was a lot of fun to run over the dirt that was across the lawn. We had a sprinkler system put in while we were gone.

I tried to start the laundry. After all I had 6 days worth of clothes from little boys who rode horses, 4wheelers, dirt piles, dune buggies. But the universe did not think it was important that I did laundry. Our washer wouldn't spin.
So the next day I found a killer deal on a new set (yep we bought a matching dryer too) and we picked it up the day after that.  They are used. But they are less than a year old. Energy efficient, low water, big basins, great reviews online, and we couldn't find anything wrong with them. They people were moving and couldn't take them. New they would have been over $1300. I was ok paying less than a quarter of that.

After a few days of playing catch up we finished out the rest of Spring Break with some more fun.
