We had also debated about what to use our tax refund this year on.
Do we invest more in the house? Put more into savings?
After some long talks, we decided we needed to do something for us.
We have invested in the house and that will be a never ending thing.
We needed to invest in us.
It's been a long few years. In between my health stuff, the pregnancy, miscarriages, surgeries, kids, school, work, obligations, foster care, etc us as a couple was getting kind of threadbare. Not like we were getting a divorce or anything. We just weren't as strong as we wanted to be. We were tired. We felt like we were stealing moments to see each other. I was staying up late to do homework, he was working a lot. He was nice and would let me sleep until the moment he had to leave for work. The times he was home he was trying to take the kids so I could get homework done. Date nights were almost non existent. Sleep was down to bare minimum We never had more than a few moments together. I can't think of a better way to describe it other than threadbare. We wanted to be as strong as a couple as we could be but there wasn't much time to spare any where to fit another thing in.
So we decided to invest in us and take a vacation.
Once we decided to go on vacation it was another few months of trying to decide where to go.
We ended up deciding on Mexico. Going to Mexico left us enough money to still invest in the house and put in a sprinkler system. (Yeah Tithing!)
I researched, I talked to people, trying to find a place that I wouldn't get sick eating there. What was the best stuff to do etc.
Trying to pick a date to go was hard. When could Sam fit it into work? When was a break in Spring and Summer Semester? When didn't it conflict with Kids stuff?
We found out that the people who are paying for me to go to school won't pay for me to summer semester, so that freed up the schedule considerably. It finally worked out that the best time to go was the week of our actual anniversary.
The neighbors watched the kids for us.
Tuesday morning we got up and were to the airport by 5 am.
This was who was waiting for us at the airport on Cancun. He was very pretty and his makeup was impeccable and his personality flamboyant. We had booked transport from the airport to our resort. However we were the only ones that booked it so our transport didn't want to drive that far out of Cancun. So we put us on another transport. It took us over 2 1/2 hours to get to our resort because of dropping other people off. By the time we made it to the resort it was like 8:30pm... we left our house at 4am. It was a long day.
By the time we made it to the resort I was grouchy, carsick, hungry, tired, and sick of traveling.
The bellboy took us to our room and this is what was waiting for us.
There was also champagne, a cake, and more flowers all over the room.
(Don't worry we left the champagne there)
This was the view from our room. We were too cheap to pay for an Ocean view but the jungle view was nice and quiet.
